there seems to be more than a few riders here that have and use helment cameras. what's out there to buy? anything one system to avoid?
the race videos have been great.

I have a Helmet Hero wide.
Suggest you get the newfangled HD version.
There are several threads on http://www.mtbr.com forums on the subject.
Dan I use the Contour 1080p HD. It shoots in various resolutions with a flick of a switch and everything is self contained - no wires. I did some research before buying mine and this one seems to have the best picture quality from reviews I have read. It's also low profile and can be mounted to your helmet or bar, rather than some other cameras that are quite large and risk damage from hitting a branch.. etc. This camera seems to have great contrast in the woods and in darker areas as well.
Here is the info on it:

The helmet mount for biking is actually on top of the helmet and the camera is positioned horizontal rather than vertical like on ski helmets. The front of the lense actually rotates to compensate for this change and there are red laser guides if you need them.
They also make a waterproof case for it.
I got mine of Amazon with a bundle of a larger memory card. The stock card is not that large.
I can now record up to 3 hours.
great info guys thanks. price isn't too high. it seems much easier now to get one than a few years ago.
